Chlamydia Testing Information

Our SIMPLE and EFFECTIVE testing method

Our chlamydia test is very simple, non intrusive, and quick. All we need to perform the test is a urine sample. Our testing process requires no undressing or swabbing – very simple. There is no preparation needed for the test other than not urinating for at least one hour prior to your visit. That's it!

The best time to be tested

There is a delay between the time of exposure and chlamydia showing up in your urine. If you believe you have been exposed to chlamydia, it is best to wait at least 1-5 days before getting tested, for accurate results. The test should be repeated 14 days after treatment to make sure that the bacterium has been completely cleared.

Interpreting your test results

A “negative” result means there are no signs of chlamydia in your system. A “positive” result means chlamydia was present. Remember, for accurate results you should wait a minimum of 1 to 5 days after exposure before getting tested.

Treatment of Chlamydia

Chlamydia is definitely treatable, with antibiotics. There are two types of antibiotic treatments for Chlamydia: one type is given in one dose and the other must be administered over seven days. If your test results are “positive”, our doctors can provide a consultation over the phone and may prescribe antibiotics. You can then pick them up at your local pharmacy. Keep in mind that both you and your partner should be tested and treated before having sex again. Otherwise, you risk becoming infected again.

You should get tested if...

Typically, chlamydia infections show no symptoms. 70-90% of women who have chlamydia and 90% of men that have chlamydia aren't even aware that they have it. Almost 3 million new cases of chlamydia appear annually in the Unites States according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The spread of chlamydia is intensified by the fact that it has little to no symptoms. What does this mean for you? If you have any question whether or not you have been infected, GET TESTED. If you are sexually active, and don't know the history of your partner, you should both be tested. The risks of not diagnosing and treating chlamydia can be serious. If left untreated, chlamydia may cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). It may also prevent pregnancy. In men, chlamydia may lead to epididymitis, or inflammation of the tube at the back of the testicle that stores and carries sperm. In rare cases, untreated chlamydia may even lead to arthritis.

Don't make the mistake of waiting to get tested for Chlamydia.

Chlamydia Testing - Don't Wait.

If you feel you may have been exposed to chlamydia, the best time to get tested is 1-5 days following possible infection. Getting tested within this window further increases your chances of an accurate diagnosis. If you are diagnosed with chlamydia, getting retested 2 weeks after treatment is recommended.

If this is the first time you've been tested for STDs, we recommend the 10 Test Panel to test for other STDs you might have encountered. This test will let you know if you have been infected with any other STDS. These include all three types of hepatitis, both types of herpes, HIV, gonorrhea and syphilis.

Another option is to take the chlamydia-gonorrhea test panel. This tests for both gonorrhea and chlamydia because they often times co-exist within the same patient. If you have one, you are at a higher risk for being infected with the other, so don't wait to get tested.

Schedule an appointment at one of our local testing centers and soon you'll have the peace of mind knowing if you are infected or not.
