Hepatitis B Testing
We use the most accurate, FDA approved test on the market to test for hepatitis B. Your blood sample is tested for certain antigens which show up in your blood if you are infected with this virus. This test is so accurate, it can even determine if your infection is new or old.
Hepatitis B Testing Information
According to the CDC, an estimated 1,873 people died from Hepatitis B in the United States in 2013. Been tested? Read the important information below about Hepatitis B testing.
Our SIMPLE and EFFECTIVE testing method
The test for hepatitis B requires only a small portion of blood. This will be drawn by a lab technician at your local testing center. This takes very little time. Occasionally, a small bruise may occur where the blood is drawn, but it shouldn't be very painful. You don't have to do anything to prepare for your test. No fasting is required, just show up at your designated time and try to relax.
The best time to be tested
The recommended time to be tested is at least 6 weeks after sexual contact. This should result in the most accurate diagnosis. Hepatitis B rarely has visible symptoms, so most carriers will not know they have the disease until at least 6 weeks after infection. Around 50% of infected persons will experience a range of symptoms, including joint pain, headache, loss of appetite, tiredness, abdominal pain, vomiting, hives, and possible fever. If you experience any of these symptoms, schedule a test as soon as possible.
Interpreting your test results
The test results usually come back within one week, and will show up as either positive or negative. A negative result means no hepatitis B was detected. A positive result means hepatitis B virus was found in your blood. If you receive a positive diagnosis, we recommend you contact our doctors to discuss possible treatments.
Treatment of Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B can be treated, but most individuals (around 90%) don't need treatment for the disease to leave their body. This usually happens within 6 months without any treatment. If your symptoms persist longer than 6 months, your infection is considered chronic and will need to be treated with the help of a physician. We provide free phone consultations with physicians who are trained to help with this treatment. Proper treatment can help prevent long term liver damage caused by the disease.
You should get tested if...
Anyone who is sexually active is highly susceptible to hepatitis B. If you are a sexually active male or female, and have sexual activity with different partners, we recommend you get tested for hepatitis B. Those who have unprotected sex are at an even higher risk for infection. Individuals who share needles for intravenous drug use are also at risk for this disease. If you receive a positive diagnosis, we strongly urge you to notify any of your recent sexual partners so they can be tested as well.
Don't make the mistake of waiting to get tested for Hepatitis B.
